Tokyo ghoul season 3.
So like a lot of people, I had a love hate relationship with Tokyo Ghoul when I watched its first two seasons recently- there are some amazing fights and character moments, but the show also takes the "less information is better" approach way, way too far in some instances.
I have no idea who Arima is and why his character is important, for instance, despite the fact that he's basically treated with protagonist-level importance in the ~3 scenes he's in, and I still don't know who the extremely powerful ghoul that Kaneki freed from Cochlea is- is he the Second Owl? I have no clue. I also don't know if Amon is alive or not, and I don't even know if I'm supposed to have figured it out or just be wondering. Same with the Devil Ape and Black Dober leaders. They looked alive, but where could they go? And what happened to Tsukiyama?
Rant aside, I still really want to see a continuation of the story at the end of Season 2, which is why what I've seen of Season 3 so far... Isn't grabbing my attention. There's a 2 year time jump? An entirely new cast of characters? A new lead? It looks like a mediocre reboot, and without the promise of continuing the stories of the characters in invested in, I don't feel any desire to watch it.
So is that the case, or am I just getting the wrong impression? Are we supposed to accept the S2 finale as resolution for Kaneki and Touka's stories? Please don't spoil any major plot points for S3 if I'm wrong about all of this, I'm just trying to understand what's going on.
